This just in.... a report from the field

Mark did 488 miles of research today for Walt Ride 2010. He found some better and more scenic back roads to ride than those that pass through the greater Green Bay metropolitan region. Here is what he found along the way: a blue BMW.

Crud Run next Sunday, Sunday, Sunday.....

Our man Christian is devising plans to do an overnight camping trip to the Crud Run in Leland, Wis. The plan would be to leave RW on Saturday, ride; camp somewhere in 'Sconsin, and make the Crud Run on Sunday for the festivities. And then we'd have to hammer it home afterward.

Rain today....

Guess I'll go and paint the kitchen. Damn.

And a swell time was had by all.....

Though we've never been much for the flood run here at the IronWorks club house in Pretty Downtown Red Wing, we get out and ride just the same. If you look hard enough through the Harley clutter, you'll spot some old and interesting iron out there, and a good mix of bikes. (unfortunately, I didn't stop anywhere to snoop around.) All the same, we met at our usual place, Smokey Row Cafe in Red Wing for the pre-ride breakfast and coffee. Christian plotted a route away from the crowds and in the opposite direction of the general flow of Flood Run traffic, which was nice when we came through Maiden Rock as the line of bikes going south on Hwy 35 was backed up for a couple of miles. We hit a little bit of everything, (gravel, too. A GPS shortcut?)before getting on MN. 60 in Zumbro Falls. Roads were in good shape, and had washed off even more thanks to rain last week. After a few more miles, we crossed the river at Wabasha and made our way north to Pepin, and the usual mid-ride coffee stop at Great River Roasters and Cafe where we were to meet Paul, who brought along his father and sister in-law. As Paul had mentioned last week, sometimes riding is not all about squeezing as many miles as you can into one day or riding the fastest and hardest, but it's about getting together and shooting the breeze, and enjoying like minded company. After the ride,it was to Christian and Jen's for homebrew and burgers on the grill. Apologies to Tim, who was stuck with a hot dog.

Walt Ride 2010 is shaping up

We have a schedule hammered out and it will be a good one: antique motorcycle racing; scenic Wisconsin back roads through the scary forests; the northshore of Minnesota and whatever twisty roads we can find. Hats off to Mark for doing 450 miles of "research" yesterday on routes. Here is the schedule as it stands now:

Friday, June 11 - depart for Mark's in Fond Du Lac. Arrive
approximately 5 p.m. Those arriving at Mark's are on their own for din-
din since he'll be getting in from foreign destination at 3 p.m. Bring
Pokeman cards for the kid as bribery.

Saturday, June 12 - Antique bike races at Road America (half hour from
Mark's house)

Sunday, June 13 - Depart FDL for Manitowish Waters, taking a northwesterly scenic route that is approximately 271 miles. Arrive, eat and swill beer.

Monday, June 14 - Depart Manitowish Waters for Grand Maris,
MN.***** (Please note, this could change)

Tuesday, June 15- To Duluth via Hwy 1 through Ely and what other
interesting back roads that are available. (and stay at Brett's house,
if he's cool wid dat.

Wednesday, June 16 - ride some of the Duluth area roads in the AM, and
head for home.....

Pirate Run 2010

Plans are afoot for a gathering to ride in the Flood Run (AKA Pirate Ride, The Meeting of the Johnny Deppers....) this Saturday, April 17. The main roads will be clogged with more fat guys are Harleys than you can shake a stick at. Don't expect a lot of miles here, but we gather for the chuckles just the same. Hahahaha, I dare to laugh a merry laugh.

Random Motorcycle Picture of the Day

And by gosh, it's a serious one, too. Christian, let Jenn know that I am serious here. I'm not kidding, either.
