From all of us that work diligently behind the scenes

of the Ironworks blog, have a Merry Christmas. And keep in mind that we are already past the shortest day of the year and the days are getting longer. Spring has begun.

Here by popular demand is Corsica.

A wonderful little island in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Italy but actually ruled by  none-other than France. Whoa, bet you did not know that? See, you can actually learn something at this blog that isn't blather about motorcycles and booze. Anyhow, our foreign correspondent Paul S.took a lovely trip there this fall and discovered that the island that gave birth to Napoleon is also full of motorcycle culture. Here is a look:

Well traveled BMW

The next bike Christian plans to buy

Twisty mountain roads? Right here, Bub

Large animals that like to rest in or near the road.

Expensive bikes and boats. Probably owned by Euro-trash.

Tight one way roads; can you say pucker factor 10?

Some Euro dude. And of course he is on a Beemer.

The new Grom. Which in French means Grom. No one really knows what it's name means.

Things are starting to rumble on the Walt Ride '14 agenda

There's been some talk about Arkansas; some talk about going east, and the latest development might be for heading west to the world's best tiki bar in Great Falls, Mont. It's 1028 miles from Red Wing. Could make for an Irontbutt Association Saddle Sore ride, too.

Want to take a moment....

to thank everyone for coming out to MMN on Saturday night. Good food, and friends, and we certainly got our fill of all things Isle of Man TT, the greatest and most dangerous race on the planet. Next month, Paul W. will host.

Good night to our good friend, Peter O'Toole

He starred in the classic film, Lawrence of Arabia, in which he portrayed WWI hero and Brough Superior addict T.E. Lawrence. Mr. O'Toole punched out today at 81.

Motorcycle Movie Night is this SATURDAY, DEC. 14 @ 7 p.m.

It's bigger, it's badder, it's more jiggity than ever before (well, that's a lie, but I gotta sell this thing as being fun.). Two documentaries are on tap; all I have to say is get your Isle of Man groove thang on; both cover the famed race from different perspectives. And because of the pending Xmas event, be prepared to spread good will, cheer and all that BS. Marie will make some of her World Famous chilli, and there will be other surprises for my riding  brethren (and not just Amish hookers, this time...) Be there, tell your friends, family and co-workers it could get ugly on Saturday.

This event and blog post officially approved by these guys and tea baggers everywhere.

News flash.....

As of Nov. 2, Smokey Row Cafe will be no more. Our home for coffee, breakfast, pre-ride gatherings will shut its doors next Saturday. This has been the official coffee hang out for the Red Wing Ironworks Motorbike Club for many years. Its owners have always put up with our presence and we are sad to see this place go.

More man stuff

McQueen: bikes, chicks, smokes, booze, fast cars and yes, motorsickles....

The Man Who Would Not Stop at Nothing is gone

Famed and noted long distance rider John Ryan was killed Sunday in a motorcycle accident in northern New Jersey. Ryan was the subject of book "The Man Who Would Stop At Nothing" penned by Melissa Holbrook Pierson, chronicling the life of Ryan as a long distance rider. Ryan was also a speaker at the Very Boring Rally last August in Duluth and was noted for the "NASA" patch on a very well-worn Aereostich Roadcrafter suit that he kept on round the clock. John was a member of the Iron Butt Association as are some members of the Ironworks Motorbike Club. Godspeed, John.

For basics on the story, go here.

Arrrrrrggghhhhh, maties

It's the flood run on Saturday. Who wants to run with the pirates?

Friday, September 13, 2013

September already?

That can only mean one thing: that October is next and that brings the annual OctoberFest/Big Burn party at Bill's house.  The date is set for Oct. 5; expect swear words, arm punching, beer guzzling, and stoopid jokes.  Bring what you will, Clarence, but rumors are afoot there could be a keg or Rush River. Sculpture provided by Horst Forkenspoon.

These chicks will be there chugging beer.... Not really

VBR Roadcrafter competition..... All the news is here

Our man Christian represented us well in the who-can-get-in-and-out-of-their-Roadcrafter-fastest competition at this weekend's VBR rally in Duluth.....

The Roadcrafters are carefully placed on the stage.

Christian appears to have the lead over his competitors

A grasp of the main zipper and it is into the home stretch

What? A stuck zipper. Victory slips away

An interview that will soon make its way to every large media outlet world wide

No prize, but a handshake with Andy Goldfine, the founder of Aerostich and designer of the Roadcrafter riding suit
