Gear: It's What Works

Good story in the Pioneer Press about a motorcycle airbag jacket in action. Saved this guy's bacon.

Motorsickle Hill Climbing Bad Assery...

Right here in RW, no less. Duh. It's not like we don't have any hills around here. Sept. 17 and 18th at the Indianhead Motorcycle Club hillclimb grounds in Red Wing. Drags will be held Saturday and a semi-pro climb on Sunday. The fun starts at noon both days. There will be dirt. Details, go here:

http://www.indianheadmc.org/

And if you insist on not leaving the state of Wisconsin due to your obstinate pride, you can always go to the Valley Springs Motorcycle Club's  hill climb this Sunday, Sept. 4 in Bay City. Why, that's just right across the river from Red Wing, and yes, there are hills over there, too. F**k the state fair this weekend, go see this shit instead. Way funner than eating a nasty corndog at a venue that smells like little kid vomit and yer aunt's BO.

Hill climbing; so bad ass it's just like those stories Gramps told you about being a B-17 waist-gunner during WW Two.

Hey Look, We Have a Mission Statement

It's about damn time. Here goes:

The express goal of the Red Wing Ironworks Motorbike Club is to promote safe and skillful motorcycling in southeastern Minnesota. We are firm believers in ATGATT. Our membership is focused on sportbikes, sport tourers, adventure/dual-sports, standards  and vintage iron of European and Japanese manufacture. (We are not a Harley/cruiser club). And when our riding is done for the day, we usually drink beer afterward, watch crappy motorcycle movies and talk bikes ad nauseam.

Separated at Birth?

The Victory Vision......
And the Brain, from Pinky and the Brain.....?

It Has Been Proclaimed, Therefore it Shall Be....

There will be a gathering of sorts in Little Timmy's VooDoo Lounge this eve. I think it starts at 7 p.m. Bring what you will, Cletus. Fezzes are optional.

Walt Ride 2017 Plans. Already?

Tentative talks are centered on a Yooper ride in June 2017. (That would be Michigan's Upper Peninsula). Focus would be on Copper Harbor, Hougton area. Prolly a five-day ride this time around. The High Command at the Red Wing Ironworks Motorbike Club thought this to be a swell ride for next summer.

This post sponsored by the High Command, which, by the way, when searched on the internet produces images of nerds playing a video game of the same name or WW I Germans.

50,000 hits on the blog. And counting.

The accountants high atop the Acme Incorporated Tower in downtown metropolitan Red Wing have just analyzed the latest data and we've hit a milestone here at the Ironworks Blog: 50,000 hits on our page. Not ones to toot our own horn, but we're gonna celebrate in style tonight.

A short jaunt to Fond Du Lac.....

Or, what we saw on Hwy. 10 riding across central W'sconsin.

Men at work.

Talking the finer points what makes the perfect Brandy Old Fashioned, or in local speak, BOF.

The Gales of August come a-blowin'.

No trip to eastern Wisconsin cannot be done without a visit to a local super club; in this case it's the Cedar Lodge in Malone, Wis.

A cheese shop and radio station housed in former exhibit from the 1964 World's Fair in Neilsville. Weird, but fitting.

Stuff to do

North Shore Shindig: Sept. 8-11, Finland, MN. This is a great ride-your-own-thang ADV ride on the splendid shores of the Big Lake (That would be Lake Superior, for you down-range types.) Great group of peeps to spend a weekend with. We're in. Details and such, go here:

North Shore Shindig

And it's time to get this on the calendar, the 67th annual Red Wing Ironworks Motorbike Club's Big Burn. This is our version of Octoberfest complete with a probably-illegal moto-centric sculpture burning in a rather average size backyard fire pit. No problem. As usual, entertainment provided by Rush River Beer, your crappy jokes and sad stories we've all heard before. Celebrate another grand year of motorsickle riding.
TIME: 6:30 p.m.
DATE: Oct. 1
PLACE: Bill's

This town's in tatters. I've been splattered. Sha-dooby.

Down in the valley. Trout Creek OHV riding area near Weaver, MN. Good-n-muddy. And the fast guys make riding in this stuff look easy.
