More from Deep in the Heart of Tex-Ass

I wonder if Shawn knows St. Cloud is under a winter storm warning for tomorrow? Hmmmm. No worries.

Odds and ends...

Univ. of Minnesota-  Duluth marketing students are helping the fine folks at Aerostich with a survey; it's short. Fill it out and have a beer. Live large, man.

Aerostich survey

And in other news, Mad Max, aka, Frog Boy, reports all is well in Australia, where he swears he is studying at the University of Adelaide  He reports the bike culture is great, though he has sent no photos. If you actually read this, Max, you can take this as a hint to send some pictures. And please spread the joy of reading this blog to our friends Down Under.

Max could be sending us photos like this.....

Instead, we're stuck with this.

Random Motorcycle Picture of the Day

Did some early spring riding across the river on a few gravel roads. The thaw was in full force today: water hazard.

Cheap is cheap

But this? At least I now know what to do with the old motorcycle tires in the garage.

Deep in the heart of Texas

What to do between seasons? Go south, young man. Shawn, our St. Cloud rep, ditched it all and ventured southbound on the Africa Twin. Needless to say, he'll be shoveling snow upon his return. Some pics.....

Vietnam via bike.

One of these days, we keep saying to ourselves, we're gonna make an epic trip somewhere, far, far away and out of the ordinary. We know of one such guy from good ol' Red Wing who just returned from a 7-day tour of north Vietnam via a Honda 150 trail bike. Now, that is some adventure riding. He put together a video of the trip and you'll also find a few pics below. Enjoy.

Upcoming events

Wake up, winter is in the waning stages, the bike should have been started up already. Let's go: there is no time to waste. A couple items to put on your calendar.  Stayed tuned; more to come as the weather heats up.

Ton Up Spring Social... See poster below: This time around, it's being hosted at the Red Stag in good ol' NE Minneapolis. And it has returned to the month of May.

Also, the Slimy Crud run. A perennial favorite with a movie screening, too.

The latest Cycle World arrived today

It's now going quarterly, which I don't think should come as a surprise as the publication announced this some time ago. However, gone is the cheapo-feel of the stapled binding and low grade magazine newsprint. The first issue is bound and has good, quality stock. Why, it's even good enough to leave on the coffee table when the Royals or in-laws come for a visit. Sorta followed suit of "Motorcyclist" which changed to a more upscale format. Better not drop this one in the tub when I take a soak.

Odds and ends

First up, this Saturday, March 10 is Motorcycle Movie Night at Christian's. I do believe the fun and games starts at 7 p.m. Could be the last one of the "winter" season. Good movies on tap.

Part Two: the boy would like to thank the Red Wing Ironworks Motorbike Club for the keen-o Red Wing Iron Ranger boots. His place in Mpls. went up in smoke and flames last week and he pretty much lost everything. Tim, an employee at Red Wing Shoe, led the charge in getting replacement foot wear. The boy's former boots  (along with everything else he owned) fell through the floor and burned up in the bathroom below where the fire started.  Thanks guys, you are the swellest bunch ever.

Next up: it's official, we have representation in St. Cloud. Some dude named Shawn on a Honda Africa Twin. He thinks it's cool to ride in the snow or something. Ha.

And lastly, three years of dirt down the drain. Washed a very grimey Roadcrafter yesterday. It's now shinny as a new penny.

Winter riding, Popcycle Derby style

We did not finish in the top five but we certainly rounded up the rear of the field in the Glacial Lake Motorcycle Club's PopCycle Derby in Dennison today. There are competitors who show up with timing devices of all sorts, GPS, slide rules, sextants, graphing calculators, divining rods, and Norden bombing sights from B-17s. But not us. We go by guile driven by a sense of timing and direction, and the notion that "hey, we got this." And the reality is, that only gets you so far. No matter, it was, as usual, a swell time today in Dennison. Some pictures.

The winning side hack. Not piloted by Trump, however.

Suiting up. It was colder than the predicted 50 degrees.

Fat tires. Yep, they work well on the snotty, frozen stuff
