Me? Nope. This guy? Hell yeah, and in drier weather than we had here in Fred Wing. Mark squeezed in his December ride near Fun Du Sac, 'Sconsin. Look, Ma... no snow, neither!!!! (But snow on the grass is OK, though; it covers a lot of dog pooh.) Mark has officially joined the Early Spring Rider's Faction of the Red Wing Ironworks Motorbike Club.

Zen And The Art of Smithsonian
The Zen bike from Robert Pirsig's "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" is landing at the mother ship of all things culturally significant: the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History. Story here:
Pirsig, born in Minneapolis, wrote "Zen" as both a narrative of a motorcycle trip with his son and his personal beliefs in philosophy. It is the book that needs to be in every motorcycle library.

First Ride of the Spring Was Today
What happens the day after the winter solstice? The days get longer. We interpret that as the start of spring. Winter? That is for the weak. It is an up hill ride from here. Yep, we hit some roads today to get that first ride of the spring knocked off. January, you're next.

Just Like Grandma's House....
...A good time was had be all. Good turn out last night at Parallel Cafe in Mpls. for Triumph to unveil a couple of bikes, catch up with friends old and new, discuss riding exploits of the past year and develop some plans for 2020. In pictures, here you go:

Wind, snow? Who cares. The masses came out. |
The Usual Suspects. |
Sorta like the red carpet at a Hollywood unveiling. |
Not a great picture of the Scrambler itself, but this is what it would look like if someone rode it to the event. (Except for green trees in background.) |
Bike were all cool, but this was the interesting part of the evening: watching glass blowers in action. |
Checking out the Bobber. |
A revised version of the Street Triple. Artsy-fartsy picture. |
My dog thinks this is his bike. And, yes, I do have dog named Bob. |
Better Scrambler picture. Yep, on my Xmas list, too. And probably this guy's as well. |

How To Spend A November Day?

From The Dept. of Movie Reviews
Ford v Ferrari gets thumbs up rating from the Red Wing Ironworks Motorbike movie review board. Very well told story about the heydays of Ford taking on Ferrari at the LeMans 24-hour. And, yes, there is a brief scene with a motorcycle; a scooter, and a picture of a motorcycle on a kid's bedroom wall.

Motorcycle Movie Night Already?
Yep, 'tis the season for the best (or the worst) of any film with a motorcycle in it. The fun starts this Saturday eve at Paul's house, 7 p.m. As usual it is BYOB, bring a bad or good story, be prepared to talk smack about the in-laws, cuss about the pending status of the weather, or put on a sock-puppet show that is your interpretation of "Easy Rider". Whatevah peeps. It is time to commiserate.
How many riding violations and unsafe riding techniques can you find? But, hey, it is Tom Cruise, right? |

Sure It Snowed A Little: So what?
Thanks to Tom for putting together and hosting a fun day of some true adventure riding in our neck of the woods for the Twin Cities Adventure Riders group. A fun back road route from Cannon Falls to Red Wing that usually proves to be an entertaining mix of gravel roads. The highlights included a little bit of snow and slop, one mean German Shepard, a very large deer, and one alternator that crapped out thanks to Mr. Gerbing over taxing things a wee bit electrically. No matter: a great way to start November.

Stuff To Do On Saturday.
Twin Cities Adventure Riders has a gathering planned in our neck of the woods for Saturday, Nov. 2. Details here:
Cannon Falls Bomber Run and Chili Feed
Saturday November 2nd 10:00 AM to 3:00 PMStart and Finish at the Dairy Inn 1401 N Hwy 20, Cannon Falls, MN
This route explores the rolling farm land of Southeastern MN as well as the very beginning of the driftless area with it's hills, ridges and hollows. The route is about 100 miles long and will be 75% gravel and 25% asphalt roads. This is an easy Adventure Ride with little chance of mud or sand on the route. The first part of the route we will make our way to the settlement of White Rock and then head north to meet up with of the Cannon River and parallel the Cannon River Bike Trail. We will pass by a small Elk Farm near the Welch Village Ski Area and then head southeast to the small town of Hay Creek. As we enjoy the fantastic farms and gravel roads of the driftless area we will make our way toward Red Wing. We will have a short stop on top of Memorial Park for some incredible views of the town of Red Wing and the Mississippi River Valley. After this we will drive through Red Wing on Hwy 61 and stop for a chili feed. Afterward we will take the 35 minute drive back to Cannon Falls via of Welch and Miesville Ravina Park Reserve along the north side of the Cannon River. There is a gas station a couple of blocks from the start/finish so getting gas before or after the ride will be very convenient. This is a late season ride so we never know what the weather will bring. If there is a likely chance of Snow, Ice or Freezing rain the ride will be cancelled.

Plans are afoot to head Friday eve to Nord'east Mpls to the Moto Collective HQ for motorcycle movie night. The action starts at 8 p.m. Our departure time from Red Wing? Around 5-ish. Plan is to stop and have a beer(s) at Fair State Brewing. All the cool kids are going and you don't need a permission slip from your mom, either.
